Shandaken Primitive Biathlon - 11th Annual at Upper Esopus - This involves snowshoeing - the classic wooden and rawhide kind -- over a halfmile course, stopping at stations to shoot hanging targets with a traditional muzzleloader. Free Deer Management seminar at Ruby Rod &
Gun Club, 1223 Main St., Ruby, NY 12475 The Hudson Valley Branch of the Quality Deer Management Association invites you to attend a FREE Deer & Habitat Field Day. Hunters, landowners and anyone interested in Deer Management are invited to attend. Kevin Haight, Nick Yanick & Charlie Fiscella (QDM consultants) will discuss basic food plot principles and property/wildlife management plans. Matt Ross, QDMA Regional Director (Biologist/Forester) will do presentations on starting a QDM Co Op and aging deer on the hoof. Mike Callan (NYS DEC Forester) will discuss forestry for wildlife & basic forestry. Find out what you can do to manage for better deer herds in your area! This will be an "in the field & classroom" event, so please dress appropriately. PRE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED! Note taking material is strongly suggested. Adults: $12, Juniors: $5, Cubs: Free • Registration times: 7:00 AM through Noon. Top gun to cubs. 28 targets plus bonus target. Food available. Nice trail walk with rest area and free water. Home of the Bionic Boar. We will show anyone how to shoot 3-D. Come shoot in the heart of the Catskill Mtns. Bring some friends and have a great day. Cubs are free and they get a medallion when they turn in the card. Directions from Kingston, Thruway (Rt. 87) exit 19: enter Kingston traffic circle and take Rt. 28 west about 5 miles. Just past the Black Bear restaurant, turn right at the Glenford sign, go .6 mile, then turn right by the Church onto Ohayo Mtn Road, go 1.7 miles and turn left at the red barn onto Yerry Hill Rd. Go .6 mile and turn left onto Montoma lane. Go to the end and enter by the dead end sign and take club road to our pond. Youth Pheasant Hunt at
Davis Farms, 5941 Route 209, Kerhonkson, New York Must be 12-15 years old and have hunting license and parent and/or guardian present. Contact Joe Liuni 853-3142 • Bill Smith 647-7246 • Chris Gibbons 399-6528. The Federation will select up to 15 applicants by random drawing. The applicant will be notified by phone and must be available to participate for this hunt on Sep. 27, 2008. In order to participate, a parent or legal guardian must be present at the event. The applicant needs to possess a hunting license and must sign a waiver at the sign in. You cannot bring your own firearm. Firearms, ammunition, shooting glasses, ear protection, vest, lunch and refreshments will be furnished by the Federation. Selected applicants should have some prior experience with a shotgun but firearm instructors will be present.
